Washing Shoes – Laundry Tip 1
When washing your sneakers !!! Pre-spot them and let them sit for 15 min or so. Then wash them with towels or other clothes never by themselves for a much better SPOT CLEAN
When using pre-spotters always allow the pre-spotter to start working five minutes before you throw it into the washer for the best results.
Washer Loading – Laundry Tip 2
When loading the washer always try to load the washer properly being sure to not overload it. Proper loading will ensure that the washer can do its job and get the laundry really clean, Spot clean.
Sorting – Laundry Tip 3
When doing a whole bunch of laundry at one time it’s always best to separate your clothes – not only by color – but also like clothes to like clothes! I.E. Jeans with jeans, Sheets with sheets, Towels with towels etc…!! This will help you get the best SPOT CLEAN.
Sort your laundry before heading to the laundromat to save time too!
Detergent – Laundry Tip 4
WHAT AMOUNT OF DETERGENT IS CORRECT?
If your laundry is extra dirty, do not use extra detergent thinking that’s what it needs. It’s always best to use the recommended amount of detergent based on your load’s size and the type of detergent. Plus, adding a detergent booster like Oxi-clean will help get your laundry the SPOT clean you’re are looking for.
So where do you start? Choose your favorite detergent, and remember to try something new once in a while. Just because you like it doesn’t mean it’s the latest and greatest detergent that’s out there.
MORE ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER
First, always read your detergent’s directions and follow them for the best results. Detergent works to remove dirt from the fibers of your laundry. If you put in too much detergent, there will not be enough friction for the water to work with the detergent. This will leave you with dirty clothes after the wash is done. And they may even be dirtier than when you started. So Spot recommends following the recommendations on the packaging.
The second negative aspect of having too much detergent is that the rinse cycle may not remove all of the detergents. This could cause burns on your fabric from a hot dryer or iron, skin irritations, and will ultimately shorten the life of the linen.
Third, HE machines are made to use HE detergent, and too much detergent of any kind could cause them to overflow. Of course, this overflow could cause damage to your home or the laundromat.
If your clothes are super dirty, rather than add more detergent, use a rinse cycle first. Once that is complete start with your wash cycle and add any detergent to help remove extra dirt from the wash cycle.
Saving Money – Laundry Tip 5
Save money with this tip about proper dryer use.
When you want to save time and money the place to start is with your dryer. First and foremost do not overload the dryer. For most home-style washers, a whole washer load will not fit into the matching dryer.
Dryers were meant to tumble dry the laundry, hence the name tumbler dryer. Air is what really dries your laundry, the heat really just speeds up the process. When you overload the dryer, the air cannot circulate through the load. So the outside of the ball gets hot and dry while the inside stays wet. This creates the perfect environment for fires, burnt linen, and extremely wrinkled laundry. The more airspace you allow around your clothes the faster and better they will dry, time will be saved, and your electric bill will be lower.
Remember that two properly sized loads are always better than one oversized load. and a properly loaded dryer will allow you to see the back of the dryer when the clothes are wet.
Large Items – Laundry Tip 6
When washing large items like comforters, sleeping bags, horse blankets, dog beds etc… Always try to wash them in a larger washer than you think not just the one it fits into. They need room to move around to get a great SPOT CLEAN or you will only result in getting it wet and not totally clean.

Pod How To & Safety – Tip 8
HOW DO I USE PODS IN A FRONT LOAD WASHER?
Pods go into the front of a front-load washer. Do not put them into the detergent dispenser.
DO PODS WORK IN COLD WATER?
When using the new style laundry ‘PODS ” the outer covering if not washed in hot water, they can take a very long time dissolving in your washer and will not give you the SPOT CLEAN you may be looking for!
WARNING!
Laundry Pods are full of chemicals and are not to be ingested. Keep them locked safely away from tiny hands to avoid laundry room tragedy.
Beach Day – Laundry Tip 9
After a long day at the beach, no one wants to spend hours shaking out sandy towels, and then cleaning the bag that carried them. Instead, shake the towels before leaving the beach, and place them into a mesh bag. The bag will allow the sand to fall out as you make your trek from the beach to the boardwalk. This will save you time when you get back.
We like this mesh beach bag by Eddie Bauer. It even has pockets for organizing!
Laundry Tip 10
Allow your dish rags and towels to air dry overnight before tossing them into the laundry basket. Keep them separate from your other laundry since they will most likely require more rinses and a longer soak time. Doing the same thing with wash cloths is super important to help avoid mold and mildew problems. May we suggest just draping them over the hamper edge to dry before dropping them in.
